The Independent Living Skills (ILS) Specialist position is designed to help people with disabilities, mental health conditions or chronic illnesses to gain independence and broaden their life skills at home and in the community. Our company prides themselves on creating a supportive, person-centered, positive environment for the individuals that we work with and the staff that work with them. ILS Specialists are trainers who work one on one with a person to increase their life skills. ILS Skill training includes but is not limited to the following areas: career/job development, money management, health insurance, daily living skills, household management, mobility, peer support, self and individual advocacy, assertiveness, and socialization.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ASSISTING

  • Assisting Individuals with identifying skills they would like to work on and then helping them develop a plan to work towards independence in those skills.

  • Help them work towards self-advocacy-including, at times, advocating for that individual’s preferences.

  • Work with individuals one-on-one and in groups, both in the individual’s home and community environments.

  • Complete documentation of progress towards plans, time spent with individuals and providing services in accordance with individual’s plans.

  • Maintain appropriate relationships with individuals, staff and peers.

  • Assist Individuals in finding areas of interest and making community connections in those areas.

  • Assist Individuals with completing tasks such as shopping, banking, cooking, medical appointments and cleaning as identified in each person’s individual plans

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Have a reliable vehicle and valid proof of personal automobile insurance.

  • Have the ability to pass a complete background check by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Department of Human Services (this will include a photograph and fingerprinting).
